ArcGIS Geological & Geophysical Atlas
Introduction
Detail of the Faroes-Shetland Basin and the linked sections are shown in the map to the left in red.
The North Atlantic margins are turning into a major hydrocarbon producing province, since the 1980s with the discoveries in the Faroes-Shetlands Basin, and the more recent discoveries in the Vøring Basin.
This report compiles all the structural, reservoir and source rock information which is available in the public domain and provides links to all the geological and seismic sections. Geophysical databases of topography, gravity (Bouguer and Free Air) anomalies, magnetic anomalies, heat flow, earthquake epicentres, present-day surface stress tensors are all included in digital format. The Paleogene volcanism was very important in this area and accurate maps of the extent and thickness of the volcanics are provided.
